Production Log
Entry Four
This week I have finished editing and finalising my documentary. I made sure everything I needed was present in my documentary and also added all the transitions and graphics to my work.
I have made sure that all my pre production work was up on my blog and also that my final documentary was complete. During editing I realised that a lot of things needed changing around and that the continuity of the documentary was not flowing well which meant I had to change footage around and play about with different shots to make sure it works out. During editing I also realised that my presenting shots where very long and the viewers would be bored by just listening to the presenter, I decided to add images onto the screen relating to what the presenter was talking about. The struggle which I faced during my final editing day was that the time schedule was short and I needed to rush my work a bit more to meet the deadlines. This meant that I had to quickly gain feedback from my teacher, after I gained feedback I knew a lot of changed had to be made to make sure my documentary was looking good. I spent an extra four hours after school editing my work to make sure that it was looking professional. Here are some things which I edited:
-I cut up the montage into little sections and spread them around the documentary rather then having a whole chunk of it in one place.
-I added more graphics
-I added a lot of instrumentals at the back to keep the viewer interested
-I removed a lot of unnecessary footage and made some of the shots shorter
-I searched through my filming folder to find some relevant cut aways, this would help make my work look more professional and keep viewer interest.
Overall I think the unit went well and I enjoyed it. The short deadline which we had to film and edit did effect my documentary all together but I would also change my organisation technique and make sure I was on top of things and getting things done, this would help me if I was to film and edit this documentary again.

Production Log
Third Entry
This week I have finished filming and started to upload my already filmed work onto the macs. I managed ti get my three interviews done which included a Media teacher, a Journalist and someone who works for the PCC.
This week I progressed from struggling to find people to interview, to actually getting three interviews done in the space of three days. I managed to also book suitable times for these interviews and also due to my presenter also having a busy schedule we had to compromise and do moat of them in our free time. This week I also managed to sort out most of the shots onto my editing timeline and left gaps to put in more footage and extra cut away shots if I needed to. I have also started making the basic graphics for my documentary such as the titles and also the captions. I have also put together a montage on IMovie which will act as my mini montage at the start of my documentary to give the audience of what the documentary is actually about.
I am using Final Cut express to edit my work ...
I faced another huge obstacle this week. After reviewing my footage I realised that most of my presenting shots sound was impacted by the heavy winds in the background meaning that you could not really hear my presenter. To recover this problem I had to quickly re arrange a plan with my presenter which meant after school I had to reshoot these scenes. This turned out to be a positive change because but like before my presenter did not know all the lines but now she has memorised most of them which means most of the key facts where included in my documentary.
In the next few days my aim is to make sure that all my footage is edited and put on the timelines. I will then show my teacher who will suggest to me some improvements and a lot of things I may need to cut out. I will also continue making the graphics.

Production Log
Second Entry
The progress which I have made this week is that I have filmed some interview needed for my documentary and I have completed all my pre production.
This week I faced an unexpected challenge of having 2 of my contacts drop out of an interview as they have notified me they do not want to be filmed on camera. This came as a massive problem as I had only filmed one interview and needed 3 more , I quickly got on the phone and was able to find a Journalist who was willing to film an interview. I thought about my subject and realised that a media teacher is relevant for the subject I am covering as they also know much more about the subject then I do. Finally I had booked an Interview with the deputy mayor of Tower Hamlets but the day before filming they notified me that he has a meeting and will not be able to do the interview which meant that I have 3 interview which I am happy with. Over the weekend I went out on location with the presenter and filmed the presenting bits but the presenter had forgotten some of her lines which meant that we had to cut the lines down a bit more so she would be able to remember them. This was a challenge as I was missing some key points which I wanted the audience to know , but to deal with this challenge during editing I can make the presenter to multiple voice overs which would help me progress more.
Next week my aim is to get the basics of the editing done and get all the footage onto the time line and then start cutting and also producing voice overs and graphics which means I will be using a lot of my free time to come and edit to make sure that I get the work done and to the best of my ability.

The progress which I have made this week is that I have made sure that I have found more people to contact as i was finding it hard to receive replies from people I have already contacted and i also finished off my pre production planning making sure i have updated all the work on my blog.
This week I did face the difficulty of trying to find people to interview as I was receiving no replies and i had only one person which I have had locked in. To tackle this problem I researched even further and got more contacts for my contact list and this time even phoning them and talking to them over the phone rather than waiting for a reply via email which can take a couple days to reply. I then gathered another two more people who I could lock in.
My aim for next week is to film everything which i need to start editing as this is the final deadline for filming. I will make sure I have filmed all my interviews and also thought about what would be a suitable time to go out with the presenter and film as me and the oresenter have different free time we would need to work out days in which we both will be free to film.

Narrative Arc
Section One
What: The first section will be displaying the questions "Do celebrities have a right to a public life and then a small montage with pictures and background music.
Montage: A small montage of celebrity photos in which the paparazzi are taking pictures as the celebrity is trying to move away or cover their face. Also graphics of tabloid headlines moving across the screen.
Who: The presenters voice over will be presenting the documentary tittle. (with background music)
Duration: 20-30 seconds
Section Two
Presenter will be in front of the camera introducing what the documentary is about.
What: Presenter talks to the camera and introduced what the documentary will be about. This is to give and insight on what the documentary will be about and what the audience will learn throughout.

Section Three
Montage will be on more people and more mini clips on celebrities showing how they are crowded around paparazzi and also tabloid headlines of celebrities revealing their private lives and also some clips from shows such as keeping up with the Kardashian and how they are very open about their lives.

Presenter will talk about how celebrities are robbed of their private life and at the same time show how some celebrities use (expose) their private life as a tool to keep them selves in the public eye.
What: Presenter will talk about how celebrities are stripped of their private lives and at the same time show the audience how celebrities use their private life for other reasons. The audience will learn both sides of the story and also this section will not be biased meaning that after this segment the audience are exposed to both sides to later then come to their own conclusion on the matter.

Interview with PCC. In this interview I will be gaining information from one of the workers who worm for the PCC and make sure i get the correct information and how the PCC actually work. I will also be asking them questions about how the organisation works and how people can gain privacy. I will also ask him for his own views.

The presenter will talk about the organisation and the audience will learn more about how PCC works , also this interview will be sided towards the "Yes celebrities have the right to a private life" due to the fact that this person if from the PCC who agree with the fact everyone should have a private life.
Who: The Presenter will be holding the interview with Jonathan Collete who works with the PCC. This is a complain organisation whicb tackles privacy issue by anyone who wants to keep their privater life , private. This organisation contacts the media and makes sure a private story or a false story does not get leaked into the daily papers. The opinion of the PCC worker will be For the privacy of celebrities.

Section Six
Presenter will introduce case study 1 (Naomi Campbell) and talk about a battle which she had to face in country due to her private life being leaked onto the front page of a newspaper. This segment will also have flashing images across the screen showing different headlines and images of what happened.
What: Introduction to case study about Naomi Campbell and two sides of the story , this will help the viewer understand more about how the celebrities can take the media to court.

Vox Pos will be held in Ilford and I will be asking the members of the public some questions for them to answer. This is to gain a general response from everyday people and to see where they stand with the privacy issue that celebrities face.

Voice over will outline the laws and regulations in the UK about the private life if people and celebrities. This will come up in screen as graphics and be in a professional looking font so it goes with the theme of the subject. Also as the voice over outlines these laws and regulations the graphics will be appearing on screen.
What: Voice over 0f the laws and regulations related to privacy , this is to help educate the viewer on some of the laws and regulations which are already placed in the UK for people to protect their private life.

Proposal
Proposal
My final idea is a documentary called : 'Celebrity & a Private Life ?'
I decided to go with this name because I believe its short and gets straight to the point , it displays what the documentary is actually about in a couple of words. Here are some fonts which I think would go well with the title and I also could include them in my documentry ....
Aims:
The aim of the documentary is to explore the question which is talked a lot about in the media , the document shows both sides of the argument if celebrities are entitled to a private life. This topic will be viewed upon by experts and everyday people who see these news stories printed on the newspaper which they consume. I want this documentary to open up this debate which is being discussed behind closed doors to the mass audience and I want people to make their own minds up about the right of a public life for a celebrity. My Aim is also to appeal to my target audience from the ages from
Content:
The content of my documentary will hold a lot of things which will complete my documentary all together. I will piece together a documentary which is similar to the ones that are shown on BBC 1 and Channel 4 such as "Dispatches" and "Panorama". It will run for 5-10 minutes and will be aded into a half and hour show which will broadcast on BBC3. My content will be relatable to the younger audience
Target Audience:
The target audience for this documentary which i am producing is very broad . The age group which i am trying to target is 16-25 year olds but i believe that this topic is very broad and many people above this age group will be interested in the answer for this. Gender wise i think it is not targeted at one type of gender as this question can be interested in by both genders , but i think because this topic covers the celebrity aspect of it many females will be interested in it rather than males.
Format:
The format of my Documentary will slightly fall into Expository mode because there will be a lot of voice over in my documentary.This documentary mode in simple terms interprets what is going on screen to the viewer by persuading them into believing what the voice over is saying as it can use objectivity which means presenting only the facts without any opinion. This is one of the most popular types of modes used by a film maker as the film maker holds the power to show you what they want and also somehow guide you through it and make you think a certain way by the end of it
Genre:
The Genre would be documentary which has different elemnts inserted into it such as pre recorded footage and interviews. I will also have archive footage and graphics to add to my project so it will look professional and also make sure that my points are being displayed in a wide variety of ways.
Style:
The style of the documentary will cover many angles and use a lot of various ways to portray the messages such as voice overs , graphics and interviews. I will be interviewing experts to get their professional view on the subject , I think Journalists and people who work in the media will be more ideal for my project it covers these points from someone who knows what they are talking about. I will also consider interviewing a celebrity and get their view on it. Overall I will show both sides of the argument and make sure that I am not bias towards anything. I will also have a huge variety of shot types like close ups and long shots to maintain a good balance of viewer entertainment. I think the overall flow of the documentary will be serious and straight to the point rather than adding humour or anything which is not needed.

1.BBC Panorama
The show i have chosen is called 'Panorama' which first broadcasted on the 11th of November 1953. This show is broadcasted on BBC One every Monday and its time slot is 8.30pm , this show is a formal based factual TV show made in a documentary type and helps cover many aspects and topic from government and politics to a latest scandal. This is similar to my show because of the structure of the show as it holds a lot of archive footage and interviews. I believe that my show can beat the viewings on this show because BBC3 is more known to the youth and sometimes this show covers topics which are mainly targeted at the older age range such as politics and government issues , these types of topics do not appeal to the younger audience which means that my show which does appeal to both younger and older age group will be more successful.
The show i have chosen is called 'Panorama' which first broadcasted on the 11th of November 1953. This show is broadcasted on BBC One every Monday and its time slot is 8.30pm , this show is a formal based factual TV show made in a documentary type and helps cover many aspects and topic from government and politics to a latest scandal. This is similar to my show because of the structure of the show as it holds a lot of archive footage and interviews. 2.The One Show
The one show is a very popular BBC1 show, it has been running for 6 years and has gained a lot of viewers thought its time on air. The show broadcasts ever Monday at 7:30pm, the show entertains people by bringing in famous, well known people onto the show and discuss matters with them. i have chose this programme to compare my programme with because they are similar, they hold a lot of interviews and discussions and graphic content. It is a good example of a factual television. The show covers a lot of topics and a variety of areas, which is why it makes it similar to my show. i think my T.V show would beat the viewing figures of The One Show because, my show is targeted at a more wider variety of age group this could be shown by viewing The One shows ideas and the structure which they portray also some of the one shows discussions cover topics which are aimed at a older audience.
3. Question Time
This show is called Question Time and has been running for 33 years, it is another popular show on BBC1 which airs every Sunday. The show brings in the more older audience rather then the younger because of its political side. It is similar to my show because of its discussion elements as the presenters discuss variety of political topics or general discussions. The structure of the show is not similar because it only has one scene and stays within the 3 way camera structure. I think my show will beat its rating because my show will be more entertaining and it will appeal to the mass audience, it will also gain variety of age groups especially my target audience. Question Time has only a limited audience.
4. Dispatches.
This show is called Dispatches and is broadcasted on channel 4, the show has been airing for 25 years. The show is shown on different occasions and has become quiet popular with the viewers. This show is very similar to my show because of its structure and the variety of topics it covers. The show has covered very revealing and interesting topics regarding different situations, which my show will also be doing. It has also been criticised for its privacy issues as it is very revealing and exposes private issues. Secondry Reaserch for my final Idea
I will be answering five question's which will allow me to gain more in depth knowledge on the subject. The five questions which i will be covering in my documentry are ....
1. Are celebrities entitled to their own private life (can the media/journalists expose what they want about them)?
2. How does it effect the press ?

1. Are celebrities entitles to their own private life?
Celebrity gossip has become the new craving in peoples lives and no longer does the UK public want to see news about a new film or a celebrity winning an award , now the most interesting part of the entertainment column in newspapers is who broke up with who ? and which latest celebrity's secret has been leaked. The news industry has now been forced into breaking privacy barriers and digging up every single detail about a celebrities life until the celebrity feels as if the newspapers are their private journals which is being viewed by millions around the country. In todays day and age we have advanced media tools such as social networks so everything can be spread to the mass audience in a matter of minuets. The question arises "do we have the right to invade a celebrities personal life?"
This is an opinion of a Minister who thinks they do have the right ..
"Although many aspects of the private lives of celebrities and public figures will inevitably enter the public domain, in my judgement it does not follow that even with self publicists every aspect and detail of their private lives are legitimate quarry for the journalist. They are entitled to some space of privacy," Mr Justice Morland
But Many people believe that when someone decides to be famous , this opens the gates into their own lives to be exposed , yet they cry invasion of privacy when everyone knows their business. We also do need to look at the fact that these celebrities do put a lot out for display and then cry wolf. A simple example would be a celebrity leaving a night club and then vomiting all over her dress , this would not be on the Sun's front papers the next day if the celebrity actually sobered her self up inside the club before coming out and acting drunk.
2. How does it effect the celebrity?
Celebrities are effected mentally and physically as these exposure of their lives and information they do not want out in the public can ruin their lives and leave them in a very lonely place as now millions of people know something which is suppose to be private. Some celebrities suffer from breakdowns and others like it due to the attention falling on them. There have been many cases of celebrities breaking down due to all the public attention ...
3.How does it effect the public?
The public are effected in numerous ways and have diffrent and varid opinions amongst them selves on the topic of privacy. Some people think that the celebrities/high profiled people are humans and have the same rights as we do , so their private lives should be respected. Others believe that since the celebrities have decided that they want to be someone other than a normal person and live their life exposed a sit is then their lives are not private in the first place so whatever is exposed is something which shouldn't be private in the first place.
Celebrities also causing a scene in public places can effect the public who are going about their daily lives. This is an example which i have picked out which shows clear proof of the disturbance of the public while paparazzi follow a celebrity about. In the video you can see Justin Bieber driving around while the paparazzi try to follow him and follow his every footstep , at around 1.33 you see how the celebrity gets annoyed at the paparazzi following him so he decides to stop the car and cause a traffic. Members of the public who are going around their daily lives get caught up in this mess and then get out of their cars to complain about the commotion which has been created just because the paparazzi are following a celebrity about. Many people like Justin Bieber would think this was wrong to follow him about and invade his privacy but others would believe that because he is a well known celebrity then the press have the right to follow him about in public spaces.
4.What was the news hacking scandal and how did it effect the celebrities?
This was a massive story which blew up in the UK and was the spark to the whole questioning if the UK Press have too much freedom and that there needs to be more restrictions and rules when it comes to the media in the UK.
"Employees of the newspaper were accused of engaging in phone hacking, police bribery, and exercising improper influence in the pursuit of publishing stories. Investigations conducted from 2005–2007 concluded that the paper's phone hacking activities were limited to celebrities, politicians and members of the British Royal Family. In July 2011, it was revealed that the phones of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, relatives of deceased British soldiers, and victims of the 7/7 London bombings were also accessed, resulting in a public outcry against News Corporation and owner Rupert Murdoch. The scandal has been exposed to the UK with full force as many people have been caught up in this undercover scandal which has been going on under every ones nose. The News of the World a UK leading Newspaper has been secretly hacking into the voicemail messages of important people to find stories and get scoop behind closed doors.Hacking has been a serious crime since the day anyone could remember.The fact that the media has been digging celebrities , government , soap stars and crime targets behind their backs have made a media splash as nearly most celebrities and high positioned people in the UK have become paranoid Links between News International employees, police chiefs and politicians have rocked this country's foundations and many people have been worried about who to trust ? as government and high foundational people have been linked to phone hacking.4,000 people whose names appear in documents seized in 2006 have been contacted and told they have been hacked. This recent hacking has left many people involved very traumatised and also very paranoid that people can be listening into phone calls and private conversations , this also played a part in which a murder case was left pending due to the hackers opening up the murdered victims voicemail. 5. What are the Laws already in place and should there be more?
The right to privacy arises because Britain has incorporated the European Convention on Human Rights into our national laws. Article 8 says that "everyone has the right to respect for his private and family life". But a little way further is Article 10, which guarantees the freedom of expression and freedom of the press. The confusing statement here does certainly not stop newspapers and magazines from publishing things about celebrities , and does contradict its self. I will not present a case study in where a celebrity who filed a law suit against the Daily Mirror because of privacy breach:
Naomi Campbell is a supermodel and is known world wide , in 2002 she won a case against the Daily Mirror for publishing images of her leaving a drug concealing meeting. Naomi had sued the tabloid for breaching her private life and said she was "shocked , angry and betrayed". The court was in her favour and decided ti pay her £3.500 in damages. However four months later the decision was overturned and the court ordered the model to pay the tabloid's legal cost at £350.000.
